Cozy up with a mug of thick and spicy vegan hazelnut hot chocolate! This recipe isn’t just your classic hot cocoa: dark chocolate, crunchy toasted hazelnuts, and cayenne meet for a tasty twist.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups hazelnut milk
  • 4 oz dark chocolate chopped
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 tablespoons hazelnuts toasted
  • Vegan marshmallows to garnish
  • Cinnamon sticks to garnish

Instructions

  • Put the dark chocolate with some hazelnut milk in a small pot and warm over medium heat.
  • Stir frequently so that the chocolate can melt without burning!
  • Add the remaining hazelnut milk, cocoa powder, sugar, and cayenne pepper. Whisk until well combined, then bring the mixture almost to a boil.
  • Remove from the heat and let the hazelnut hot chocolate sit for a few minutes. Adjust to taste preferences by adding more cocoa, sugar, or cayenne pepper.
  • Divide between mugs and garnish with marshmallows, cinnamon sticks, and toasted hazelnuts! Enjoy.

Notes

  • Use your favorite dairy-free milk for this recipe.
  • Feel free to add some cinnamon, vanilla extract, and vegan whipped cream!
