Ingredients
Burger patties
1onionfinely chopped
2garlic clovesminced
1tspolive oil
¾cupbutton mushroomsfinely chopped
1 15-ozcan black beansdrained
½cupcooked brown lentilsdrained
½cupinstant oats
1 ½tbsptomato paste
2tspmustard
2tbspsoy sauce
1tbspsmoked paprika
1tspsalt
For the burgers
Burger buns
Tomatoes
Lettuce
Onion
Vegan mayo
Ketchup or BBQ sauce
Vegan cheese slice
Instructions
Place a pan over medium heat and add onion, garlic, oil and mushrooms. Sauté for 6-8 minutes until soft and fragrant. Transfer into a large bowl.
Add beans, lentils and instant oats to a food processor and pulse until roughly broken down but still textured.
Put the mixture into the bowl with the sautéd veggies and add the remaining ingredients for the patties. Mix and mash with a spoon until well combined.
Divide into 8 patties (½ inch thick) and fry them on both sides in a pan until crispy on the outside.
Assemble with your favorite fixings and serve warm!
Notes
The lentils can be replaced with more beans or cooked quinoa or rice.
Try different spices and like chili, cumin, cayenne, parsley and paprika in your burger patties!
